Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, Member of Parliament (MP) from Bhola-3 constituency, and Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP from Netrokona-1 constituency, were unanimously elected on Thursday as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad.

Their names were proposed during the first session of the 13th National Parliament, with only one nomination for each post. The House later unanimously elected them to their respective positions. President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered their oath at the Parliament building.

Hafiz Uddin, representing Bhola-3, has been elected to Parliament seven times. In 1991, he was elected as an independent candidate and joined the BNP in 1992. He currently serves as a member of the BNP’s National Standing Committee. He previously served as State Minister for Commerce in 1996 and as Minister of Water Resources, Commerce, and Jute in 2001.

Kayser Kamal won the 13th National Parliament election from Netrokona-1 (Kalamkanda-Durgapur) by a margin of 72,000 votes. He was born on December 31, 1972, in Chatrangpur village, Kalamkanda Upazila, Netrokona district.

Earlier, the Leader of the House, Tarique Rahman, nominated five-time BNP lawmaker Khandakar Mossarraf to preside over the inaugural session of the 13th Parliament to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
