Businessman shot dead in Bagerhat
A businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat on Saturday night.
The deceased, Sohag Sheikh, 42, son of Daud Sheikh of Udaypur village in the upazila, ran a tin shop in Mollahat bazar and was reportedly involved in Sramik League politics.
According to local sources, Sohag was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his shop when he reached the road in front of Panbazar, on the western side of the market. Unidentified assailants opened fire on him. He was taken to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Dr Rajib Kumar Paul, an emergency doctor at the health complex, confirmed that Sohag Sheikh had already passed away before arriving at the hospital.
Kazi Ramjanul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Mollahat Police Station, said two individuals on a motorcycle shot the businessman, hitting him three times. He added that the body is currently at the Upazila Health Complex and that a complete medico-legal report will provide further details.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits.
