3 of a family killed in Lalmonirhat road accident

Three members of a family, including a child, were killed and another was injured after a truck hit a motorcycle in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Tuesday morning.

The accident took place around 9:30 am near Mirzarkot Model Mosque along a highway in the area.

Among the deceased, Shariful Islam, 35, a resident of Monsapur village of Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur district, was an employee of a private NGO in Patgram. 

The identities of his wife and son could not be known immediately.

According to police and witnesses, Shariful, along with his wife and two children, was travelling by motorcycle to his ancestral home in Dinajpur to celebrate the upcoming Eid holidays.

A speedy truck coming from the opposite direction hit the motorcycle, leaving Shariful, his wife and their son dead on the spot.

Their daughter sustained critical injuries and was first rescued by locals before being taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where she remains under care.

Confirming the matter, Patgram police station officer-in-charge Md Nazmul Haque said that legal proceedings are underway in this connection.

Police are looking into the matter, he added.
