University officer suspended over FB post on Home Minister
An officer at Cox’s Bazar International University (CBIU) was temporarily suspended on Tuesday following allegations that he shared a defamatory and obscene post on Facebook about Salahuddin Ahmed, the lawmaker for Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) and Minister of Home Affairs.
The officer has been identified as Muhammad Yunus, Assistant Controller of Examinations at the university.
The university’s registrar office issued a show-cause notice, asking Yunus to submit a written explanation within seven days.
According to the office order, Yunus allegedly shared an inappropriate post about the Home Minister on his Facebook account, which violates the university’s code of conduct and disciplinary regulations. The order stated that, as a university official, engaging in provocative or objectionable political activity on social media tarnishes the institution’s reputation.
On this basis, the university authorities temporarily suspended him from all official duties. He has been instructed to submit a written explanation to the registrar’s office within seven working days, explaining why administrative action should not be taken against him.
