Moon not sighted, Eid on Saturday
Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival for Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on Saturday as the Shawwal moon was not sighted in the Bangladesh sky on Thursday.
The decision was made at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation conference room in Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, President of the committee and Minister of Religious Affairs.
The minister said that, based on information received from all district administrations, the Islamic Foundation’s headquarters, divisional and district offices, the Department of Meteorology, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation, the Shawwal moon of Hijri 1447 was not sighted in the Bangladesh sky. Ramadan will complete 30 days on Friday, 20 March, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the country on Saturday, 21 March.
Notably, the country’s main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation will be held at the National Eidgah at 8:30 am on the day of Eid, while five separate congregations are scheduled at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
