Govt offices reopen after Eid holidays
Government offices reopened on Tuesday (March 24) following the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, resuming pre-Ramadan working hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. During Ramadan, office hours had been from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Eid-ul-Fitr, the country’s largest religious festival for Muslims, was celebrated on March 21. A consecutive seven-day government holiday began on March 17 ahead of the festival, with March 16 being the last working day before Eid. The extended holiday ended on Monday (March 23). Many people have already returned to Dhaka from their hometowns by bus, launch, and train to resume work.
Alongside government offices, higher and lower courts, banks, financial institutions, and the stock market also reopened on Tuesday.
However, after offices remain open on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 24 and 25), another public holiday will follow on Thursday (March 26) in observance of Independence and National Day, followed by the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday (March 27 and 28).
As a result, many government employees are expected to take optional leave on Tuesday and Wednesday, effectively extending their break until Sunday (March 29). Although offices have reopened, attendance is likely to remain low, with normal operations expected to resume fully from next week.
