Won’t obstruct justice for anyone: AG Kazal
After being appointed as the country's 18th Attorney General, Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, a senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, told reporters in a reaction, 'I will not obstruct justice for anyone.'
The notification regarding his appointment was issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Wednesday, March 25.
Kazal was emotional and said that she also remembered her mother's words and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's words.
Ruhul Quddus Kazal has gained a long experience as a senior advocate of the Supreme Court. He was the elected secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association three times (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23). He also served as a member of the Bar Council and the chairman of the executive committee.
He started his career as a lawyer of the Dhaka District and Sessions Judge's Court in 1995. In 1996, he was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court and was listed as a lawyer in the Appellate Division in 2008. In 2023, he was recognised as a senior advocate by the Appellate Division.
Barrister Kajal's submissions in the hearing of the Thirteenth and Fifteenth Amendments, the legality of the caretaker government and the Zia Orphanage Trust case after the July Uprising were particularly praised.
During his academic career, he passed LLB (Hons) and LLM from Dhaka University. He studied law at the University of London and City University in the UK and received a Barrister at Law certificate from Lincoln's Inn. Barrister Kajal is also active in politics as a member of the BNP Central Committee and Senior Joint Secretary General of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum.
Earlier, Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman resigned on December 27, citing personal reasons. Later, he was elected as a member of parliament and took over as the Law Minister.
