11 districts get new deputy commissioners

The government has appointed new Deputy Commissioners in 11 districts, aiming to strengthen administration at the local level. 

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Sunday, March 29, announcing the postings in Rajshahi, Chuadanga, Khulna, Madaripur, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Habiganj, Narsingdi, Meherpur, Lalmonirhat, and Bandarban.

Key appointments include Kazi Shahidul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, to Rajshahi; Lutfun Nahar, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, to Chuadanga; Hoore Jannat, Deputy Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department, to Khulna; Morjina Akhter, Deputy Secretary of the Finance Department, to Madaripur; Md. Abu Sayeed, Deputy Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Government Printing Press, to Brahmanbaria; and Ahmed Ziaur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Department, to Chandpur. GM Sarfaraz, Deputy Secretary of the Cabinet Division, has been posted to Habiganj, Israt Jahan Keya, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, to Narsingdi, Shilpi Rani Roy, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, to Meherpur, M Rashedul Haque Pradhan, Deputy Secretary of the Power Development Board, to Lalmonirhat, and Md Saniul Ferdous, Deputy Project Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Land Management Automation Project, to Bandarban.

Officers of the rank of Deputy Secretary are typically appointed as DCs, serving as the central government’s representatives in the districts. 

They manage general administration, maintain law and order as District Magistrates, oversee land management as Collectors, and supervise the implementation of government development programs and special initiatives. 

These appointments are part of the government’s efforts to ensure effective governance, coordination, and delivery of services at the district level.
