Singer Mahbuba Rahman passes away
Mahbuba Rahman, the playback singer of Dhaka’s first talkie film “Mukh O Mukhosh”, passed away on Thursday evening at a private hospital in the capital. The Ekushey Padak awardee was 92 years old and had been suffering from various age-related complications.
Mahbuba Rahman lent her voice to the song “Moner Bone Dola Lage” in “Mukh O Mukhosh”, with music directed by Samar Das. She later gained widespread fame for singing “Amar Golar Har Khule Ne” in Fateh Lohani’s film “Asiya”.
Some of her other popular songs include “Amar Jodi Thakta Pakhir Dana”, “Amar Na Bola Kotha”, “Sonali Ei Dhaner Khete”, “Age Jani Na Re Dayal”, “Tumi Dao Dekha Dorodi”, “Amar Bondhu Binodia”, “Ajke Amar Malonche Phul Fote Nai”, and “Amar Mon Bhalo Na Go, Pran Bhalo Na Go”.
Throughout the early years of Dhaka’s film industry, she performed as a playback singer in numerous movies, including “Jago Hua Savera”, “Asiya”, “Ei Desh Tomar Amar”, “Je Nodi Morupothe”, “Kokhono Aseni”, “Surjoshnan”, “Sonar Kajol”, “Nawab Sirajuddoula”, and “Sat Bhai Champa”.
