Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has issued a stern warning that the so-called 'mob culture' –chaotic mass attacks and road blockades in the name of demands – will no longer be tolerated in Bangladesh.

He made the remarks during question-answer hour in Jatiya Sangsad on Monday, March 30, in response to a question from independent MP Rumeen Farhana.

Rumeen raised concerns over disappearances, extrajudicial killings during the previous government, and the ongoing trend of mob violence, citing 250-300 deaths from mob attacks between September 2024 and January 2026.

She also mentioned being personally targeted on February 21.

Responding, Salahuddin Ahmed said the government will take strict action against those forming mobs or blocking roads for demands.

“We have clearly stated that there will be no more mob culture in Bangladesh,” he said, emphasising that all demands must follow democratic channels such as submitting memorandums, holding public meetings, or organising seminars.

The minister distinguished between mobs and organised crimes, noting that attacks on institutions like police stations are premeditated crimes subject to investigation and prosecution.

“Freedom of speech and the right to organise will be protected, but the trend of expressing demands through mobs must end,” he added.

Salahuddin Ahmed also clarified that while the government assumed responsibility only 45 days ago, it is committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring that democratic processes replace violence.
