Clash over unpaid debt leaves 50 injured in Habiganj
A dispute over just Tk 155 spiraled into a violent clash between two groups in Lakhai upazila, leaving around 50 people, including women, injured on Monday.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm in Soneshwar village of Muriya union in the uapzila.
According to locals, an altercation took place between shopkeeper Jalal Mia and customer Rasm Ali over an outstanding payment. While Jalal Mia claimed he was owed Tk 185, Rasm Ali insisted the amount due was Tk 30.
The argument quickly escalated, drawing in both sides and leading to the use of locally made weapons. The violence continued for about two hours, turning the area into a battleground before police intervened and restored order.
The injured were taken to the Upazila Health Complex.
Confirming the matter, Habiganj Additional Superintendent of Police Shahidul Haque Munshi said that the situation is now under control, adding that operations are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
