To conserve electricity and ensure efficient energy use, the government has directed that shops, shopping malls, fairs, cultural programs, and billboard lighting must close by 7:00 pm.

The Cabinet Division issued a letter on Monday to all Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners, requesting strict enforcement of the directive nationwide.

The move follows an earlier proposal from the Power Division.

According to the Cabinet Division, the decision came after a meeting held on April 4 between the Prime Minister and leaders of various business organisations.

In response to requests from business representatives, the Prime Minister agreed to allow shopping malls, markets, and retail shops to remain open until 7:00 pm. This time limit will also apply to ongoing and upcoming fairs, trade exhibitions, and cultural events across the country.

The letter further stated that, in line with the Prime Minister’s directive, authorities must ensure that billboard lighting, fairs, and cultural programs are shut down by 7:00 pm.

The Cabinet Division has urged local authorities to take necessary steps to ensure effective implementation of the order nationwide.
