Heavy security ensures peaceful celebration of Baishakhi Shobhajatra

The Baishakhi Shobhajatra-1433, formerly known as Mangal Shobhajatra, concluded peacefully under tight security arrangements.

To welcome the Bengali New Year, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Dhaka organised the “Baishaber Ekotaan, Gonotantrer Punorutthan” (Harmony of Bengali New Year, Revival of Democracy) themed procession on Tuesday at 9:05 AM.

The procession started from Gate No. 3 (North) of the Faculty of Fine Arts and passed in front of Shahbagh Police Station. It then moved via the Raju Memorial Sculpture and Doel Chattar, passed in front of the Bangla Academy, and returned to the Faculty of Fine Arts, where it ended at 10:05 AM.

From the early hours, law enforcement agencies were deployed to ensure security around the procession. Members of the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Armed Police Battalion (APBN), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and various intelligence agencies formed security perimeters at the front and rear of the procession.

Regarding the overall security arrangements, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ramna Division) Masud Alam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that Pohela Boishakh is a cultural festival of Bengalis. Therefore, all necessary security measures were taken so that people from all walks of life could participate without hindrance. He added that the procession concluded peacefully.
