Pakistan has proposed hosting a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad in the coming days, before the end of the ceasefire, according to The Associated Press.

The agency cited two Pakistani officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. The officials said the proposal would depend on whether the parties request a different location.

One of the officials said that, despite ending without an agreement, the first round of talks was part of an ongoing diplomatic process rather than a one-off effort.

Earlier, on April 11, high-level ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran, mediated by Pakistan, began in Islamabad, marking the most significant direct engagement between Washington and Tehran in decades.

On April 12, US Vice President JD Vance said the talks with Iran failed to reach an agreement, adding that he was leaving after putting forward a “final and best offer.”

Iranian state media said “unreasonable demands” by the United States scuppered the talks in Islamabad aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.

“The Iranian delegation negotiated continuously and intensively for 21 hours in order to protect the national interests of the Iranian people; despite various initiatives from the Iranian delegation, the unreasonable demands of the American side prevented the progress of the negotiations. Thus, the negotiations ended,” IRIB said on Telegram.
