A mild heat wave is sweeping across several districts of Bangladesh and is likely to continue, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

In a bulletin issued on Wednesday morning, the Met office said the heat wave is currently affecting Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia districts.

The country’s highest temperature was recorded in Rajshahi at 37.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The BMD forecast said daytime temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, while nighttime temperatures could rise slightly across the country.

Meanwhile, rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning flashes are likely at a few places in Sylhet division and at one or two places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.

Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with a partly cloudy sky.

The Met Office also noted that a trough of low pressure lies over the northwest Bay and adjoining areas, contributing to the current weather conditions.
