BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah was admitted to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka around 2pm on Monday after his health condition deteriorated.

BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter to the media.

He had been suffering from different health complications since 2018.

Rafiqul Islam, who served as the Minister of Housing and Public Works during 1991-1996, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on November 20 in 2018 in a case filed against him for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission.

He was also arrested the same day and later freed on bail from the High Court.
