Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman and Nayeb-e-Amir Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher held a meeting with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently in London for medical treatment. The meeting took place on Sunday (April 13) at the residence of her son, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The information was confirmed by a source within the BNP. However, no official statements have been issued by either party regarding the meeting so far.

Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia’s former press secretary, Maruf Kamal Khan, posted about the meeting on Facebook. In his post, he wrote that following a recent tour of Europe, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman and Nayeb-e-Amir Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher met the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson in London before returning to Bangladesh. The meeting was held at the residence of Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of the Zia couple, who was also present during the discussion.

He further mentioned that the issues discussed during the meeting remain unknown. We will have to keep our eyes on the future to see whether this meeting sparks any new reactions in the chemistry of politics or remains merely a courtesy call.
