19 including AL ex-ministers produced before ICT

Nineteen accused, including former ministers and state ministers of the ousted Awami League government, have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal, ICT, in cases over the killings during the July-August mas uprising.

They were produced before the tribunal from Keraniganj Central Jail, Dhaka, Kashimpur Central Jail, Gazipur, Narayanganj District Jail and Bangladesh Medical University (formerly knows as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital, around 10:15am on Sunday, April 20.

Former law minister Anisul Huq, civil aviation and tourism minister Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president Hasanul Haq Inu, former state minister for posts, telecommunications and information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former prime minister's power, energy and mineral resources adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, former minister Dr Dipu Moni, Hasina’s adviser and businessman Salman F Rahman, former minister Kamal Ahmed Majumder, former minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, former justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former home secretary Jahangir Alam and former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) Ziaul Ahsan are among the accused.

Members of the law enforcement agencies were on high alert on the tribunal premises since this morning.

Earlier on February 18, the 19 accused were produced before the tribunal and after hearing, the court set April 20 for next hearing.
