The Election Commission (EC) has decided to restore the registration of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami along with its election symbol, the scales, announced Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
The decision was made during a commission meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the EC building in Agargaon on Wednesday.
Addressing a court order to reinstate Jamaat’s registration, Sanaullah told reporters, “The party’s registration and symbol were granted in the same notification in 2008. Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), a symbol assigned to a party is reserved for it. Therefore, Jamaat will regain its registration with the scales symbol.”
