AL, Chhatra League attack NCP rally stage in Gopalganj
Leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its student wing, the banned Chhatra League, launched an attack on the stage of a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj.
The attack took place around 1:35 pm on Wednesday (July 16) at the rally stage set up in the municipal park area. During the incident, sound systems, microphones, and chairs were vandalised, and NCP leaders and activists present at the scene were assaulted.
Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Md Sajedur Rahman confirmed the incident.
Earlier in the day, around 10:00 am, miscreants attacked the vehicle of Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Rakibul Hasan. The incident occurred in the Kangsur area while the UNO was on a security patrol. When he reached the location, a group of attackers intercepted his vehicle and injured the driver. Law enforcement personnel later rescued them and moved them to safety.
Prior to that, a police vehicle was set on fire, leaving five police personnel injured, according to the OC.
In a separate incident, Awami League and Chhatra League activists cut down trees to block the Ghonapara-Tekerhat regional road in the Gandhiyashur area of Sadar Upazila earlier in the morning.
