Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has accused the banned Chhatra League and fugitive Awami League members of orchestrating a premeditated attack on his party.

Labelling the assailants as "Mujibist terrorists," he claimed they attacked in a militant manner and declared Gopalganj a safe haven for such groups. He demanded the arrest of the attackers within 24 hours.

Nahid made these statements during a press conference at the Khulna Press Club on Wednesday (July 16) at approximately 9:45pm.

He said, "We attended the rally in Gopalganj with police clearance, yet law enforcement failed to prevent the attack. Although they later ensured our safe evacuation, greater vigilance could have averted this incident. Journalists, students, and the public were also targeted in Gopalganj. The true face of these Mujibist terrorists is now exposed to the nation."

Expressing concern for the safety of students, martyrs' families, and supporters of the July movement, Nahid warned that "Awami terrorists" could strike at any time.

He further announced that, as part of the NCP’s nationwide march program, events in Madaripur and Shariatpur have been postponed. In response to the attack, the NCP will hold a nationwide protest on Thursday (July 17), while their nationwide march will continue.

Earlier, following violent clashes during the Gopalganj rally, top NCP leaders were escorted to Khulna by the army and law enforcement in the evening, where they stayed at the Khulna Circuit House.

Present at the press conference were NCP’s northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam, southern region chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, party member secretary Akhter Hossain, senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zara, and others.
