BNP not invited to Jamaat’s rally, confirms Salahuddin

BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed clarified that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) received no official invitation to attend Jamaat-e-Islami’s national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday, July 19.

The statement was confirmed by BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, who told Jago News, “Salahuddin Ahmed said that no one from BNP has been officially invited to this Jamaat rally.”

In response, Jamaat Naib-e-Amir Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher explained the party’s selective invitation process, saying, “We invited parties that support the proportional representation system.” The absence of a BNP invitation underscores the complex dynamics among political parties in Bangladesh’s transitional landscape, as the interim government works to finalise the July Charter and prepare for elections.

While Jamaat extends its outreach to like-minded groups, BNP’s exclusion from the event highlights differing priorities among the opposition factions.
