Jamaat chief may return home in a week: Surgeon
The heart bypass surgery of Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was successfully completed on Saturday at United Hospital in the capital, according to cardiologist Dr Jahangir Kabir, who led the surgical team.
Speaking after the operation, Dr Kabir expressed optimism about Dr Shafiqur Rahman’s recovery, saying, “Alhamdulillah, everything went very smoothly – the surgery was completed with the highest level of technical precision. We are hopeful that he will return to full health soon.”
The procedure began at 8:30am and concluded without complications. Dr Shafiqur Rahman is currently recovering in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is expected to remain there for the next three days. After that, he will be shifted to a private cabin for further monitoring.
“The operation was performed at the right time, which is crucial for a successful outcome,” Dr Kabir added. “He will regain consciousness as expected, and if his recovery continues on this positive track, he may be discharged and return home within a week.”*
In a post on Jamaat-e-Islami’s verified Facebook page, the party expressed deep gratitude to the public for their prayers and support.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our countrymen and expatriate brothers and sisters who have been offering constant prayers to Almighty Allah for the swift recovery of our respected Amir,” the message read. “We believe it is by the grace of Allah and the strength of your sincere du’as that the surgery and initial treatment have progressed so smoothly.”
The statement urged people to continue their prayers until Dr Shafiqur Rahman makes a full and complete recovery.
The 74-year-old Jamaat supremo had been admitted to the hospital earlier this week following complaints of chest discomfort and declining health. His condition prompted medical evaluation, which led to the decision for urgent coronary bypass surgery.
As news of the successful operation spread, well-wishers from across the country began sharing messages of relief and hope on social media, calling for a swift and complete recovery.
