No more monthly prepaid electricity meter charges: Minister
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood has said that the government will withdraw the monthly rent or charges for prepaid electricity meters.
"There has been discontent among users on charges for prepaid meters, and we have reviewed the matter. Now, we are going to withdraw the meter charge system soon to ensure a user-friendly electricity service," he told reporters on Sunday, March 29.
Currently, users have to pay a monthly fee for prepaid electricity meters. Many users alleged that even after the meter price has been paid, this charge is realised for years.
Now, the monthly demand charge is Tk 42, and the single-phase meter rent is Tk 40 for a prepaid meter. An additional 5 per cent VAT is added to this charge.
