BNP vows no law contrary to sharia if it comes to power
If the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) returns to power, no law contrary to Sharia, Islam, the Quran, or the Sunnah will be enacted, said Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party’s standing committee.
He made the statement following a meeting between the Bangladesh Jamiatul Modarresin and the BNP’s liaison committee on Thursday evening.
Emphasising the party’s commitment to religious values, Salahuddin said: “We want madrasa education to expand and flourish in Bangladesh. But we do not want madrasas to become arenas for partisan politics.”
He added that the BNP has been engaging in wide-ranging consultations with various stakeholders, including political, non-political, and Islamic leaders. “We have spoken to everyone. I have met the naib-e-amir of Hefazat-e-Islam, visited Hathazari Madrasa, met the Sharshina Pir, and held discussions with religious leaders from the Alia madrasa system,” he said.
“Our goal is clear and singular: to unite, integrate, and bring together all people of Bangladesh, and to govern in a way that eliminates division and promotes national harmony.”
Meanwhile, Nazrul Islam Khan, another BNP Standing Committee member, said that if the party assumes power, it will provide full support and facilities to Qawmi madrasas.
He called on all stakeholders to work together in a fair and transparent manner to uplift the Qawmi madrasa system and ensure its proper recognition and development.
