Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) President Nurul Haque Nur injured in an alleged attack by the law enforcers has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He was taken to the ICU from cabin at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 12:30am on Saturday, August 30.

Bin Yamin Mollah, president of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, student wing of GOP, provided this update in an urgent press conference in front of the emergency department of DMCH and urged everyone to pray for him.

Several other leaders of the party injured in the attack were also receiving treatment at the facility.

In a press conference on Friday night, August 29, Gono Odhikar Parishad Secretary Rashed Khan alleged that members of the Bangladesh army and police jointly attacked their party leaders and activists while they were preparing for a scheduled press conference in front of the party office.

Rashed said the party President Nur’s condition is critical. “I don’t know whether he will survive. His nose and eyes have been seriously injured,” he added.

Additionally, he claimed that more than 100 GOP leaders and activists were also injured in the attack.

“I am astonished that the army and police carried out an attack on leaders and activists of a registered political party. This is really unfortunate,” Rashed said with frustration.

A video shared on Nur’s official Facebook page showed him being carried on a stretcher, bleeding and visibly injured, as he was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Around 6:30pm yesterday, a series of clashes occurred between Gono Odhikar Parishad and Jatiya Party (JaPa) activists in front of the Jatiya Party’s central office in in the capital's Kakrail.

At one stage, members of the army and police were seen in a video circulated on social media platforms beating up the leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad, including Nurul Haque Nur, leaving him seriously injured.
