Local AL leader stabbed to death in Jashore

A local Awami League leader was stabbed to death in Monirampur upazila, Jashore, on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Ashraful Islam, 40, son of the late Azahar Ali Master of Mobarakpur village and general secretary of the 1-number ward unit of Chaluya Hati Union.

Eyewitnesses and locals said Ashraful was having tea at Ataur’s tea stall in front of Hobby Fish Mill on Trimohoni Road when a group of unknown individuals surrounded him and stabbed him repeatedly around 9:00 pm. He died on the spot from chest wounds, after which the assailants fled the scene.

Upon receiving the news, members of the Rajganj Police Investigation Centre recovered the body. The motive behind the killing and the identity of the attackers remain unknown, and locals were unable to provide any information regarding the reason for the attack.

Inspector Kamal Hossain, in charge of the Rajganj Police Investigation Centre, said police rushed to the scene after learning about the incident. He added that the case is under investigation and legal action will be taken accordingly
