BNP yet to give ‘green signal’ to any candidate: Rizvi

BNP has not yet given the ‘green signal’ to any candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Tuesday.

Responding to recent media reports on the party’s nominations, he said that at the appropriate time, BNP would scrutinise candidates through its prescribed process, select qualified ones, and then announce their names.

Rizvi made the remarks at a press conference held at the party’s Nayapaltan head office on Tuesday (September 23).

He said some media outlets and social media platforms have recently circulated so-called nomination lists of BNP, aiming to create confusion, dissatisfaction, and unrest among party leaders and activists. “It appears that certain quarters are engaged in false propaganda with the intention of causing division within BNP,” he added.

“Let me be clear, BNP is making comprehensive preparations for the upcoming national elections,” Rizvi asserted.

Calling upon party leaders and activists not to be misled, he said those who demonstrate strong performance in various party activities would be nominated as candidates. “BNP’s nominations are decided through its own organisational procedures, not by giving any green signal,” he explained.

He further noted that the responsibility of nominating candidates for any election lies with the party’s Parliamentary Board, and its decision is considered final. “Therefore, until the announcement of the election schedule and an official declaration from the party’s acting chairman or BNP’s central authority, we urge all leaders and activists across the country not to be misled by any fabricated reports published in the media,” Rizvi said.
