Mirza Fakhrul says he doesn’t understand PR
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said he himself does not understand proportional representation. “I myself do not understand PR. Save the country and do not create division. There will be no election without a referendum and PR; by making these demands and holding rallies, they are trying to derail the election,” he said.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (October 15) morning at a discussion meeting held at Gopalpur School Ground in Goreya Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
Fakhrul added, “Debates over PR should take place in Parliament. Provisions agreed upon by parties will be included in the July charter. For the remaining issues, a referendum will be held. Please use the election to end this unrest. I do not want politics of violence, nor division between Hindus and Muslims. I want everyone to live together peacefully.”
The BNP chief further said, “Having previously been in government, I know how to manage it. If BNP is elected, we will create employment for one crore people. Every family will receive a family card. Health and education sectors will be prioritised, and farmers will get the highest attention.”
Speaking on the election, Fakhrul said, “The candidate the people vote for will be elected. Do not divide or harm the country. I want to see a democratic Bangladesh, living in harmony and fraternity.”
The meeting was also attended by BNP Thakurgaon district General Secretary Poygam Ali, Sadar Upazila General Secretary Mahabub Hossain Tuhin, and other party leaders and activists.
