NCP to form advisory council soon with initial 10 members
The newly registered political party, National Citizen Party (NCP), is set to form an advisory council soon. The council will consist of experienced individuals who will provide opinions and advice on party decisions, with an initial 10 members expected to be included.
The NCP has announced its intention to field candidates in all 300 constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The party recently concluded the sale of nomination forms, with around 1,500 individuals collecting forms from across the country. Interviews are currently underway. Meanwhile, the party has reached the final stage in forming the advisory council, nearly seven months after establishing a search committee to identify suitable candidates, a source said. If all goes according to plan, the advisory council may be officially unveiled before the election schedule is announced, likely in the first week of December.
According to several NCP leaders, the council was initially planned to have 51 members, but the party now prefers a smaller body for careful deliberation. Members will be selected based on their experience in national matters, absence of controversy, and alignment with the NCP’s ideals and “July spirit.”
A reliable NCP source told Jago News that the advisory council will initially have 10 members, with plans to expand later. Many prominent figures have expressed interest, but selections are being made cautiously and confidentially to avoid controversy. A tentative list of potential members has already been submitted to party convener Md Nahid Islam, who is now engaging with them individually.
The advisory council will primarily provide policy guidance, assist in determining party strategy, advise on organisational structure and reforms, and ensure integrity and continuity. It will not have executive powers; its role is strictly advisory. Members will be drawn from 18–19 key areas, including retired military officers, economists, journalists, and experts in geopolitical affairs.
The NCP formed a search committee on May 16 to identify potential council members. The committee is coordinated by senior joint convener Samanta Sharmin, with members Tajnuva Jabin, Sultan Mohammad Zakaria, Dr Atik Mujahid, Arpita Shyama Dev, Khaled Saifullah, Alauddin Mohammad, Moshfikur Rahman Johan, Mir Arshadul Haq, Maulana Sanaullah Khan, Dilshana Parul, and Khan Mohammad Mursalin.
Speaking to Jago News, Dr Atik Mujahid, joint convener of NCP and member of the search committee, said, “We have shortlisted candidates and forwarded the list to the convener. He is now meeting individuals daily. Within a few days, the advisory council is expected to be announced. In the first phase, 10–20 members may be named, and the number will gradually increase, eventually reaching around 100. We hope to form the advisory council before the election schedule is announced.”
