The Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, has clarified that the interim government has imposed no restrictions or objections regarding the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh.

In a post published on his verified Facebook account on Saturday afternoon, Shafiqul responded to recent remarks by Tarique Rahman, who had stated that the decision on his return “is not currently open to him” and “not under his sole control.”

Responding to questions whether the government was preventing his return, Shafiqul replied: “There is no restriction or objection from the government in this regard.”

The statement comes amid heightened political speculation about Tarique Rahman’s possible return as his mother, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, remains hospitalised in critical condition at Evercare Hospital’s Coronary Care Unit.

In the same post, Shafiqul Alam also noted that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep concern over Khaleda Zia’s health and has appealed to the nation for prayers for her recovery.
