Khaleda’s condition remains critical, not fit to fly abroad: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has confirmed that party chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia remains in critical condition and is not medically stable enough to be flown abroad for treatment.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Saturday afternoon, Fakhrul said a medical board comprising both local and international specialists convened for two to two-and-a-half hours on Friday night to thoroughly assess her health.
The doctors reviewed her current status, associated risks, and potential treatment pathways.
“Madam’s physical condition is still not stable enough to be taken abroad at this time,” Fakhrul stated, adding that while all necessary arrangements – including visas and air ambulance logistics – have been made with relevant countries, the decision to transfer her overseas will only be taken once her health permits safe travel.
He also expressed concern over the large gatherings of party leaders, activists, and well-wishers outside Evercare Hospital, noting that the crowds are causing discomfort to hospital authorities and disrupting care – not only for Khaleda Zia but also for other patients.
Fakhrul appealed to the public and party supporters: “Please do not gather at Evercare Hospital. We will issue official health bulletins at the appropriate time to keep everyone informed about Madam’s condition.”
