Unidentified assailants shot a National Citizen Party (NCP) leader in Khulna on Monday. Locals rescued him and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) for treatment.

The victim was identified as Motaleb Shikdar, the NCP’s Khulna divisional chief and a central organiser of the party’s labour wing, Shramik Shakti.

The incident occurred around 12:00 pm. Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Police Station, confirmed the shooting and said Shikdar is currently receiving treatment for his gunshot injuries.

Meanwhile, sharing a photograph of the bullet-wounded Shikdar, the party’s joint member secretary, Dr Mahmuda Mitu, wrote on Facebook: “NCP Khulna divisional chief and central organiser of NCP’s labour wing, Shramik Shakti, Motaleb Shikdar, was shot a short while ago.
