NCP leader Tajnuva resigns day after Jara steps down
Joint Convener Dr Tajnuva Jabin has resigned from the National Citizen Party (NCP), a day after Senior Joint Member-Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara stepped down from the party.
Tajnuva announced her resignation on her Facebook page at 12:35 pm on Sunday (28 December), citing the party’s electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami and the process behind the alliance.
She said she had no other honourable option but to leave the party and also announced that she would not contest the election as an independent candidate.
She alleged that the BNP remained out of power for 17 years after forming an alliance with Jamaat, stressing that under the BNP, alliances were formed with Jamaat — not under Jamaat. “When the NCP is being described as another ‘outlet’ of Jamaat, why is the party, instead of first establishing its own identity and political standing, becoming desperate to choose Jamaat merely to gain power?” she questioned.
Tajnuva also claimed that the spirit of July is not practiced within the NCP; rather, it is being used. She said she had planned to resign after the formal announcement of the alliance, which was her last hope.
“But yesterday, everyone confirmed that the alliance has been sealed. Let me say again, the reason for my resignation is not so much the alliance itself as the process through which the alliance was formed,” she added.
