Jamaat amir says LDP, NCP onboard, NCP remains absent

Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday announced that two more political parties – the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the National Citizens’ Party (NCP – have joined an alliance led by Jamaat along with eight like-minded parties.

He made the announcement at a press conference held at Abdus Salam Hall on the third floor of the National Press Club at around 5:00pm.

The press conference was moderated by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Amir Mamunul Haque.

Senior leaders from several alliance partners were present at the event, including Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram, Islami Andolan Bangladesh presidium member Ashraf Ali Akon, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Quader and JAGPA Vice President Rashed Pradhan.

No representative from the NCP attended the press conference. 

Addressing the issue, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said the NCP would hold a separate press conference to provide details regarding its decision to join the alliance.
