Tk 1.96cr in assets, no house or car, discloses Tarique

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has declared total assets worth Tk 1 crore 96 lakh 80 thousand 185, while his wife, physician Dr Zubaida Rahman, has assets amounting to Tk 1 crore 53 lakh 191, according to affidavits submitted with his nomination papers for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections.

The affidavit shows that Tarique Rahman does not own any house, apartment, land or vehicle in his own name. He also declared jewellery worth only Tk 2,950.

Tarique Rahman, whose profession is listed as politics, will contest the election from two constituencies – Bogura-6 (Sadar) and Dhaka-17 (Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara-Cantonment).

Cash, shares and savings

According to the affidavit, Tarique Rahman has Tk 31 lakh 58 thousand 428 in cash in his possession, while Tk 66 lakh 54 thousand 747 is shown in his wife’s name. He has no foreign currency holdings and no deposits in banks or financial institutions.

He declared Tk 5 lakh invested in bonds, debentures and shares of listed and unlisted companies, along with Tk 45 lakh in company shares. 

His savings also include Tk 20,000 in savings certificates, fixed deposits worth Tk 90 lakh 24 thousand 307, and other deposits amounting to Tk 1 lakh.

Tarique Rahman reported no ownership of buses, trucks, cars or motorcycles, no firearms, and no movable assets abroad. His household furniture is valued at Tk 1 lakh 79 thousand 500.

Land and property

The affidavit shows that Tarique Rahman does not own any agricultural land. He declared 1.4 decimal ownership of non-agricultural land valued at Tk 3 lakh 45 thousand. His wife owns 111.25 decimal of land, including joint ownership of an 800-square-foot two-storey building. Another structure stands on 2.9 decimal of land received as a gift.

Neither Tarique Rahman nor his wife or daughter has taken any government, bank or institutional loans.

Cases, citizenship and tax

Tarique Rahman stated that he has been acquitted or exempted from all 77 cases filed against him, with some cases withdrawn. He mentioned higher secondary education as his highest qualification and confirmed that he holds no citizenship other than Bangladesh’s.

In his income tax return for the 2025-26 fiscal year, Tarique Rahman reported income of Tk 6 lakh 76 thousand 353 and paid Tk 1 lakh 1 thousand 453 in tax. His total declared assets in the return match the figures submitted in the affidavit.
