Obaidul Quader back to ‘secret hideout’ after critical hospital stay in Kolkata
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has returned to his so-called “secret place” in Kolkata after being discharged from hospital, following several days of serious illness that reportedly left him on life support.
Quader, also former road transport and bridges minister of Sheikh Hasina’s government, was admitted to private Apollo Hospital in Kolkata late Thursday night after his physical condition sharply deteriorated.
Sources said his health worsened soon after admission, forcing doctors to place him on ventilation.
For some time, Quader had been bedridden due to multiple age-related complications and was receiving treatment at a discreet residence near Rajarhat New Town.
His sudden collapse, however, prompted an emergency transfer to the hospital, where he was taken in almost unconscious, according to people familiar with the matter.
After four days of treatment, his condition reportedly stabilised to some extent. He was taken back to the New Town residence on Monday, January 5, afternoon, where he is now continuing treatment under close supervision. Oxygen support has also been arranged at the house, sources said.
Political circles remain abuzz over Quader’s condition and location.
He has been staying in India since fleeing Bangladesh following the July uprising, and his prolonged absence from public view has fueled speculation.
Sources added that Quader was uncomfortable during his hospital stay, and doctors advised continued care in a controlled home setting for the time being.
No official statement has been issued regarding his current health status or future plans, adding further intrigue to the developments surrounding one of Bangladesh’s most prominent political figures.
