BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the party will secure a share of water from all common rivers shared with India, including the Teesta and Padma.

He made the remarks on Monday (January 12) while speaking to journalists at his house in Kalibari, Thakurgaon.

Responding to a question on what the BNP would do regarding Teesta River water if it comes to power, Fakhrul said, “We have a commitment to the people. We will engage with India on all common rivers, including the Teesta, and try to secure our share of water while maintaining mutual respect between the two countries.”

Fakhrul also expressed concern over the law-and-order situation, stating, “I have previously said that we are worried about the country’s law and order. The government has still not recovered all arms. In my view, the situation has not improved significantly. However, we are hopeful it will improve further during the election period.”

On cricket, he remarked, “International politics is involved in cricket matters, and the honour of our country is at stake. When our players are insulted, it is an insult to the nation. We agree with the decision of the Cricket Board, but minor issues are better resolved through discussion.”
