BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has sought the army chief's intervention over the death of a party leader in the army's custody in Chuadanga.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, Fakhrul stated that some security force members picked up Shamsuzzaman Dablu, 50, general secretary of the Jibannagar municipality unit BNP, on Monday night, January 12, in the name of arms recovery. In custody, they tortured him, which led to his death.

"Picking him (Dablu) up and torturing him to death in the name of arms recovery by security forces is never acceptable to the country's people. I seek the army chief's intervention over this kind of brutal incident, "Fakhrul said.

The BNP leader expressed deep shock at the 'inhuman and heinous' incident and demanded a fair investigation.
