Certain party mounting pressure on EC: Jamaat
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher on Sunday raised concerns over what he described as unequal treatment by the Election Commission (EC), alleging that pressure from a certain political party is influencing the electoral body.
Briefing the media following a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, Taher said, “We are observing inconsistent behaviour by the Election Commission on key issues, including loan defaulters and dual citizenship. Pressure is being exerted from a certain political party, but the same rules should apply to all parties without exception.”
He also criticised the government for extending security and protocol selectively, stating that while providing protection to a certain party leader is normal, similar privileges should be extended to Jamaat Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
“There is no problem with security or protocol, but it must be fair and equal,” he emphasised.
