Kushtia Jamaat amir dies while addressing rally

Maulana Abul Hashem, Amir of Kushtia district Jamaat, collapsed and died while delivering a speech at a protest rally against alleged threats to Mufti Amir Hamza, the party’s candidate for the Kushtia-3 constituency.

The incident occurred around 4:00 pm at Ektaara crossing under the sadar upazila in the district. 

Eyewitnesses said that Maulana Hashem suddenly fell ill during his speech and fell to the ground. Later, he was rushed to Dr Mannan Heart and General Hospital where on-duty doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. 

Confirming the matter, hospital physician Abdul Momin said that a post-mortem would be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

Maulana Hashem, who also taught at Poradah Degree College, was giving the closing address at the rally, which had started around 3:30 pm from the municipality square and was organised by sadar upazila Jamaat. Following his sudden death, the rally was immediately suspended.
