HC rejects Manjurul Ahsan’s nomination challenge

The High Court has dismissed a writ petition filed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nominated candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi of Comilla-4 constituency, who had challenged the Election Commission’s decision to cancel his nomination papers.

Manjurul Ahsan was the main rival of NCP candidate Hasnat Abdullah in the constituency.

The order was delivered by a bench comprising Justice Rajik Al-Jalil and Justice Md Anwarul Islam.

Confirming the verdict, Manjurul Ahsan’s lawyer, Muhammad Saifullah Mamun said the candidate intends to appeal the decision to regain his candidacy.

Earlier, on January 17, the Election Commission had upheld Hasnat Abdullah’s appeal, which rendered Manjurul Ahsan’s nomination invalid. In response, Munshi filed the writ petition with the High Court on January 19.

With the High Court dismissing the petition, Manjurul Ahsan now plans to pursue an appeal to restore his nomination ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
