BNP holding first election rally in Sylhet

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) began its first election rally in Sylhet ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections on Thursday (22 January). The formal proceedings of the rally started at 10:50 am with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an.

The rally is being presided over by Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Kaiyum, while the party’s chairman, Tarique Rahman, is set to deliver his speech as the chief guest.

Party leaders and activists began arriving at the venue in groups earlier in the day, with many staying overnight in tents since Wednesday night. Supporters from across Sylhet started reaching the venue from the early morning hours.

Around 8:30 am, Ubaydullah Faruq, central president of Bangladesh Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, arrived at the venue with his contingent. Supporters greeted the rally with slogans praising the date palm tree.

Activists and leaders from Sylhet’s various upazilas and affiliated organizations also gathered at the venue. The rally has been organized by the Sylhet District and Metropolitan units of BNP, along with the Sunamganj District unit, in preparation for the upcoming elections scheduled for 12 February.
