Will recruit 100,000 health workers if BNP comes to power: Tarique

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday announced that the party plans to recruit 100,000 health care workers across the country if it comes to power.

He made the announcement during a youth policy dialogue title “The Plan: Youth Policy Talk with Tarique Rahman – Chattogram Division” held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram, which began at 10:00 am.

Around 450 students from nearly 50 colleges and universities in Chattogram and surrounding areas took part in the dialogue. It was organised to engage young people on governance, policy priorities, and national development issues.

Responding to a question from a student, Tarique said the health care workers would receive basic training and be assigned to specific villages or neighborhoods. “They will visit households to raise awareness about diseases, promote hygiene, and guide residents on healthy living. One or two health care workers will be assigned per village, recruited locally to ensure strong community engagement,” he said.

He added that 80 to 85 percent of the recruits would be women, who will play a central role in implementing health initiatives at the household level. The programme aims to gradually expand access to health services in rural communities nationwide.

Meanwhile, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to speak as the chief guest at a BNP rally at Polo Ground in Chattogram later on Sunday, where party leaders and supporters have welcomed his arrival with enthusiasm.
