BNP candidate for Chattogram-2 Sarwar gets back candidacy
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Chattogram-2, Sarwar Alamgir, has regained his candidacy after the High Court stayed the Election Commission’s earlier order that had canceled it over loan default allegations.
The ruling was delivered by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Md Asif Hasan on Tuesday, January 27.
Alamgir was represented by senior lawyers Ahsanul Karim and Md Ruhul Quddus Kajol during the hearing.
Earlier, on January 18, the Election Commission had annulled Alamgir’s candidacy following an appeal filed by Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Nurul Amin, despite the returning officer initially declaring his nomination valid.
Following the Election Commission’s decision, Alamgir approached the High Court, which has now allowed him to contest in the election.
