Jamaat claims amir’s X account hacked after post targeting women

After an objectionable post about women was shared from the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman, the party claimed that his account had been hacked.

The information was disclosed in a statement undersigned by Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, assistant secretary general of the party, and posted on Jamaat’s verified Facebook page at 12:40am on Sunday.

“The Central Campaign Team confirms that a recent cyberattack targeted the official Twitter (X) handle of the ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, along with the social media accounts of several other senior leaders of the party,” the statement said.

“Using a highly sophisticated and coordinated method, the attackers were able to temporarily take control of one social media account. However, through swift action and the use of existing security protocols, our cyber team successfully regained control. As a result, no other accounts were compromised, and the security of all remaining platforms has been effectively ensured,” it added.

According to the statement, during the brief incident an unauthorised post was published in which a statement was falsely attributed to the amir-e-Jamaat.

“We categorically state that the content in question does not reflect the ameer-e-Jamaat’s views, position, or statements, and is entirely false and misleading,” it said.

“We request everyone to verify information only through official and reliable sources, refrain from sharing unverified content, and report any suspicious or misleading digital materials,” it added.

The party also urged the general public, journalists, and social media users to remain vigilant against fake news, fabricated quotations, and misinformation.

“The dissemination of disinformation, identity impersonation, and the creation and circulation of distorted content are legally punishable and morally reprehensible, and they undermine a democratic environment,” the statement said.

It further requested everyone to verify information only through official and reliable sources, refrain from sharing unverified content, and report any suspicious or misleading digital material.

“The Campaign Team remains fully committed to transparency, digital security, and safeguarding the integrity of public communication. Further updates will be provided if necessary,” the statement concluded.
