Abdur Rashid Jitu, vice-president (VP) of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), has joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The BNP disclosed the information at a press conference held at its central office in Nayapaltan on Friday (February 6).

Confirming the development, Jahangirnagar University unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar said Jitu had joined the BNP’s main organisational wing.

Speaking at the joining ceremony, Jitu said, “From today, I will work for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party to help build a beautiful Bangladesh, Insha’Allah.”

Alongside Jitu, leaders from different levels of JUCSU hall unions also joined Chhatra Dal. They include Shahid Salam Barkat Hall Vice-President Maruf Hasan, General Secretary Masud Rana Mintu, and AFM Kamaluddin Hall Assistant General Secretary Ripon Mondol. However, they were not present at the joining programme.

Others who joined Chhatra Dal include Nawab Salimullah Hall Vice-President Ibne Shihab, Al Beruni Hall Vice-President Rifat Ahmed Shakil, AFM Kamaluddin Hall Vice-President GM M Raihan Kabir, Rabindranath Tagore Hall Vice-President Amit Banik, Nawab Faizunnesa Hall Vice-President Bubli Ahmed, Begum Khaleda Zia Hall Vice-President Farhana Bithi, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall General Secretary Shahriar Nazim Riyad, and Shahid Rafiq Jabbar Hall General Secretary Shariful Islam.

Abdur Rashid Jitu is the convener of the Movement to Protect the Mass Uprising at the university. He is a student of the 47th batch of the Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture at Jahangirnagar University.

He has been actively involved in student movements since the beginning of the July mass uprising and played a leading role in various student movements related to student interests in the post-uprising period.
