Jamaat amir vows to establish justice in televised speech
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman addresses the nation on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar respectively on Monday.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman said that the people of Bangladesh want security, good governance, and justice, and that his party aims to build the country around these core values.

He made the remarks in a nationally broadcast address to the nation aired simultaneously on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar on Monday, February 9.

Shafiqur said that while the government formed after the July Revolution had adopted several reform initiatives targeting fundamental changes in state governance, many of those measures remain either partially implemented or at an initial stage. He emphasised that structural reforms across key state institutions have now become a pressing necessity.

He said that to ensure the continuity of the reform process, a referendum is being held alongside the upcoming national parliamentary election. Calling the referendum an important platform for public expression, he urged citizens to vote in favor of “Yes.”

Shafiqur said his party has presented its policies, programmes, and commitments in line with the aspirations of a “new Bangladesh.” He noted that Jamaat-e-Islami introduced its governance framework through a policy summit, with its key proposals reflected in the party’s election manifesto.

According to him, the formulation process involved consultations with local and expatriate experts, as well as representatives from various professional and social groups.

Highlighting Jamaat-e-Islami’s preparedness to govern, Shafiqur Rahman said that if the party forms the government, implementation of its plans will begin immediately. “By the grace of Allah and with the support of the people, we will start implementing our commitments from the first day in office,” he said.
