Jamaat alleges torture of Thakurgaon amir, demands Nilphamari SP removal

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has condemned what it described as the harassment and torture of its Thakurgaon District Amir, Belal Uddin, at Saidpur Airport.

In a statement, the party said that Belal Uddin is not a parliamentary election candidate and was travelling solely for legitimate business purposes.

He was reportedly carrying cash for lawful commercial activities, which had been cleared by Customs, and had received formal permission from the Dhaka Airport authorities. Despite this, Jamaat alleges that he was deliberately targeted and subjected to unjustified harassment upon arrival at Saidpur Airport, read the statement.

The party specifically accused Nilphamari Superintendent of Police SK Zahidul Islam of being directly involved in the alleged misconduct.

As a result of the incident, Belal Uddin reportedly fell seriously ill and had to be admitted to a hospital. Jamaat called the actions a grave abuse of authority and a violation of due process and basic legal protections.

The party also expressed concern over media coverage of the incident, accusing certain outlets of misrepresenting the event and creating a misleading narrative.

Jamaat urged media outlets to verify facts and avoid spreading politically motivated reports.
