BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman cast his vote under tight security on Thursday morning, accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zayma Rahman.

He voted at the Gulshan Model School and College polling centre at 9:36 am. Military and police personnel maintained strict security around the centre during his arrival.

This is the first time Tarique Rahman is contesting in a national parliamentary election. The BNP has announced that, if the party forms the government, Tarique Rahman will become the Prime Minister.

His voting drew significant attention from party leaders and supporters. In addition to party activists, international media and foreign observers closely monitored the polling centre.

Tarique Rahman is contesting from Dhaka-17 as well as his ancestral seat, Bogura-6, under the party’s “Paddy Sheaf” symbol.

After spending 17 years in exile in London, Tarique Rahman returned to the country on November 25 last year and became a registered voter two days later, on November 27.
